Crocheted Baby Set No. 1178

Materials:  Bear Brand Babyfair---5 one-ounce balls.  Bone Crochet Hook No. 2.

Gauge:  Chain 10 = 1 inch

Medallion for Yoke:

 

Row 1.  Ch 5, join in ring, ch 3, 15 dc in ring, join to top of ch 3.

 

Row 2.  Ch 4, *dc in next dc, ch 1*, repeat around, join to 3rd st of ch 4.

 

Row 3Ch 3, 4 dc in base of ch 3, turn work to back and sl st in top of ch 3 (pc made), *ch 1, turn work to right side, sk 1 dc, 9 tr in next, ch 1, sk 1 dc, pc (5 dc) in next *, repeat around (omit last pc), join to top of 1st pc.

 

Row 4.  Ch 1, turn, * tr in ch 1, sc in 1st tr, allowing tr to loop to the back (French Knot made), tr in 2nd tr, sc in 3rd tr, tr in 4th tr, (sc, tr, sc) in next tr (corner of medallion), tr in 6th, tr in 7th, tr in 8th, sc in 9th, tr in ch 1, sc in top of pc*, repeat around, join, fasten off.  (Medallion measures about 2 1/4 inches).

 

Join 4 for back of yoke, one on each shoulder, 2 for each half of front yoke.

 

Border of Yoke:

 

Join yarn at front corner of left side of yoke, in stitch at back of Fr K, ch 4, *dc in back of next Fr K, ch 1*, repeat around entire yoke, making 2 dc with ch 3 between in each outside corner and omitting corner Fr K and ch1 between dc's at each inside corner.

 

Sweater Body:

 

Row 1.  Ch 3, 4 dc in same st for pc, 7 tr (shell) in 2nd dc, pc in 4th, shell in 5th, pc in 8, etc., catch corners of yoke together underarm, make shell in same st, pc in next dc, continue as for front, repeat underarm joining and continue across other front, ch 1, turn.

 

Row 2.  Sc in top of pc, Fr K and sc in each tr of shell, sc in pc, etc. across.

 

Row 3.  *Pc in 1st sc, shell in center Fr K of previous shell*, repeat across, ch 1, turn.

 

Row 4 & 5.  Same as Rows 2 & 3.

 

Row 6.  Same as row 2.

 

Row 7.  Same as 3, except 9 tr in each shell.  Repeat Fr K and shell rows until work measures 6 1/2 or 7 inches from yoke, ending with Fr K row.  Fasten off.

 

Sleeves:

 

Join yarn at underarm, ch 3, pc in same st, 7 tr shell in 3rd dc, sk 1 dc, pc in next, sk 1 dc, shell in next, etc. around, joint to top of pc.  Continue in pattern for 6 inches.  Make one row with shells of 5 tr each.

 

Cuff:

 

Sc in each Fr K (30 sc), join.  Ch 4, sk 1 sc, dc in next, *ch 1, sk 1 sc, dc in next*, repeat arund, join.  Turn and work one row of Fr K as for edge of shells.  Fasten off.

 

 

BONNET:

 

Row 1.  Ch 4, join.  Ch 8, 9 dc in ring  (10 dc with ch 3).

 

Row 2.  Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each dc, join.

 

Row 3.  Ch 3, pc in same st, *2 dc in next dc, pc in next*, repeat. (10 pc.)

 

Row 4.  Sl st to top of 1st pc, ch 3, pc in same pc, *3 tr in next dc, , sk 1 dc, pc in next pc*, repeat around, ch 1, turn.

 

Row 5.  *Fr K and sc in each of 3 tr, sc in top of pc*, repeat around, ch 3, turn.

 

Row 6.  *Pc in sc above pc, 5 tr shell in center Fr K*, repeat.

 

Row 7.  Same as Row 5. (5 Fr K in each shell).

 

Row 8.  Same as Row 6, except 7 tr in each shell.

 

Row 9.  Fr K's as in Row 7.

 

Row 10.  Repeat Row 8 over 8 shells, turn and make Fr K row.  Make one more row of shells with 7 tr, three rows of shells with 9 tr, each row with its Fr K row.  Make one row of Fr K across bottom of hood (work from back) drawing to shape by skipping occasional sts.  Fasten off.

 

 

BOOTIES:

 

Begin with sole:  Ch 20.

 

Row 1.  2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 15, 5 dc in next, 1 dc in each of next 15 down opposite side of ch, 2 dc in last, join to top of 3 ch.

 

Row 2.  Ch 3, 2 dc in each of next 3, 1 dc in each of next 13, 2 dc in each of next 7, 1 dc in each of next 13, 2 dc in each of next 3, 1 dc in same st as 3 ch, join.

 

Row 3.  Ch 3, (1 dc in next, 2 dc in next) 3 times, 1 dc in each of next 14, (2 dc in next, 1 dc in next) 7 times, 1 dc in each of next 13.  (2 dc in next, 1 dc in next) 3 times, 1 dc in same st as 3 ch, join.

 

Row 4.  Ch 3, 1 dc around the spoke of each dc, inserting hook from back, right to left, join.

 

Row 5.  Work from back, *sc in 1st, Fr K in next*, repeat around.

 

Row 6.  Ch 4, * dc in next Fr K, ch 1*, repeat.

 

Row 7.  Same as row 5.

 

Row 8.  Dc in each st.

 

Instep:

 

Beginning with st in center back, count on left side of shoe to 27th st.  Join yarn, ch 4, * sk 1, dc in next, ch 1*, repeat untill you have 6 sp (7 dc), make Fr K row back and repeat 2 more times, ending with dc row.  Join to 15th st from center back on right side of shoe, sc to side of shoe, across toe, inserting hook from right to left, and down other side of shoe, ending in 15th st from center back.

 

Beading:

 

With toe of shoe facing you, ch 4, sk 1 st, *dc in next, ch 1, sk 1 st*, repeat around, join to 3rd st of ch 4. (21 dc)

 

Top:

 

Row 1.  Ch 3, pc in same st, sk 2 sts, 7 tr shell in next, sk 3 sts, pc in next, sk 3 sts, shell in next, sk 2 sts, pc in next, sk 4, shell in next, sk 4, pc in next, sk 3, shell in next, (5 shells around ending with Fr K row).
