Row 1.  2 dc in 4th st from hook, * (ch 1, sk 2, 2 dc in next) 5 times, ch 1, sk 2, (2 dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, 2 dc---corner) in next *, repeat * to * 2 times, (ch 1, sk 2, 2 dc in next) 6 times, ch 1, dc in same st as last 2 dc, ch 4, turn.

Row 2.  2 dc in base of ch 4, ch 1, sk 2 dc, dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 2, dc in ch 1 sp at base of ch 4, holding last dc forward and working behind it, ch 1, dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 2, dc behind last dc into previous ch 1 sp.  (These are crossed dc's).  Repeat to corner, ch 1, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc ---shell) in single dc at corner, 7 crossed dc's in next 8 ch 1 spaces, making 2nd dc of each cross from in front oof first dc, instead of from behind it as for first panel, ch 1, shell in corner, repeat across, ending with 2 dc, ch 1, dc in top of ch 4, ch 4, turn.

NOTE:  There are 4 panels.  The first and third panels have the last st of the crossed dc made from behind the first and panels 2 and 4 have the last dc made from in front of the first on even numbered rows and revered for odd numbered rows.  The reason for this will be evident after 2 or 3 rows.

Each panel increases by one crossed dc for each row.

Row 3.  2 dc in base of ch 4, ch 1, dc under next ch 2, ch 2, dc in previous ch 1 sp (from front) ch 1, dc under next ch 2, ch 2, dc in previous ch 2 (from front), continue to corner (8 crossed dc's), ch 1, shell under ch 2 at corner, continue across in pattern, reversing cross as needed to keep uniformity in each panel.

Repeat Row 3 until garment reaches size desired.  Model pictured has 5 rows in white, 2 rows in color, 12 rows white, and 2 rows color.

The addition of a row of crossed dc's in color down fronts and around neck makes a simple trim.

With ribbons, tie front and back together at underarm, about 6 inches from point of sleeve.  Fold back sleeve points and fasten down with ribbon bows.  Run ribbon through beading at neckline for ties.
