NOTE: Make all shells with 5 dc in back lp of stitch only except for last row of sleeve. All sc between shells in both loops of stitch.
Sacque: Begin at neck. Ch 72.
Row 1. Dc in 4th st from hook, (ch 1, sk 1, dc in next) 6 times, (ch 3, dc in same st as last dc---corner made), (ch 1, sk 1, dc in next) 4 times, make corner, 13 sp, make corner, 6 sp, ch 3, turn.
Row 2. 2 dc in base of ch--half shell made. Sk 2 sts, sc in next, sk 2 sts, shell in next, sk 2, sc in next, sk 2, shell in next (omit sc after this shell), ch 1, sk 2, make corner as follows: (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in center of ch 3, ch 1, sk 2, shell in next, sk 2, sc in next, sk 2, shell in next, make corner, 5 shells across back, make corner, 2 shells for next sleeve, make corner, 2 shells, end half shell in last st, ch 1, turn.
Row 3. Sc in first dc (shell in next sc, sc in next shell) twice, shell in ch 1, (ch 1, post dc around next dc from front, ch 2, post dc from front of next dc, ch 1---corner made), shell in ch 1, sc in shell, and continue around in this pattern.
NOTE: Each front section increase 1 half shell each row, and each other section increase 1 complete shell each row. All corners made in same manner except alternate rows have the post dc's made from the back of work, to keep the ridges on the same side. This and Row 4 constitute the pattern rows.
Row 4. Same as Row 3, except begin and end with half shell as in Row 2.
Continue these 2 rows until sleeve section measures 7 inches across. On next row, join at underarm by making the sc through the ch 2 of both corners at the same time. Make shell in next ch 1, etc., across to next corners and join as before.
Work in pattern until sacque measures 6 inches below joining, with last row made from inside. Make a row of sc up edge of left front, shell around neck, skipping 2 sts between shells and sc's. Then sc down right front edge. Keep edges flat and even. Fasten off.
Sleeve. Join yarn in sc at underarm, sl st to center of first shell. Work around armhole in shell pattern. End sc in last sl st, turn, sl st to center of last shell made, continue around in shell pattern, joining as before. Repeat these rows until sleeve measures 6 inches from underarm. Make last row of shell with only 3 dc.
Cuff. From right side, sc in each dc (sk the sc). Join (30 sc). Ch 4, turn. *Sk 1 sc, dc in next, repeat from * around (15 sp) join, turn.
Make 1 row shell as around neck. Fasten off.
Cap. Row 1. Ch 6, join in ring, ch 1, 16 sc in ring, ch 5, turn.
Row 2. Dc in base of ch, ch 1, sk 1, * shell in next, ch 1, sk 1, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next, repeat from * twice, end ch 1, sk 1, shell in next, ch 1, join to third st of ch 5, ch 1, turn.
Row 3. Insert hook around the 3 sts of ch below the joining st from the front. Draw a loop through st on hook. Ch 4 (to look like a post dc), * shell in ch 1, sc in next shell, shell in ch 1, ch 1, post dc around next dc from front, ch 2, post dc around next dc from front, ch 1, repeat from * around. Join last ch 2 to third st of ch 4, ch 1, turn.
Row 4. Insert hook around the ch below (from back) draw loop through st on hook, ch 5, continue around in shell pattern as before.
NOTE: All post dc's must be made from the same side of work to maintain the ridges.
Continue rows 3 and 4 until the ridge measures 4 or 4 1/2 inches from center. Begin to narrow.
Row 1. Do not make shell in ch 1, but sk to first st of ch 2, make a shell there, sc in next shell, etc. around.
Row 2. Shell around, even.
Row 3. Sl st to center of first shell. Shell to next shell below ridge, and join the 2nd shell at each side of corner by making sc through center stitch of both shells at one time. Finish row in pattern.
Row 4. Shells even.
Row 5. Same as Row 3.
Row 6. 3 dc shell around, join, ch 3.
Ribbing.
Row 1. Post dc around each dc from front, joining to top of ch 3.
Rows 2, 3, 4, and 5. Post dc around first dc from front, around next from back, etc. around, joining to top of ch 3. Fasten off.
OPTIONAL VISOR:
Row 1. Begin in edge dc, directly below a corner or ridge (work from right side of cap). Sc in each of next 6 sts, hdc in each of next 2, dc in each of next 3, 3 dc in next, and reverse order of sts across, sl st to next st of cap, ch 1, turn.
Row 2. Sc in each of 3, hdc in each st to center dc, 3 hdc in this dc, reverse pattern across, sl st to next st of cap, ch 1, turn.
Row 3. Hdc in first, 2 hdc in next, hdc in each st across, ending to match beginning. Sl st to next st of cap, ch 1, turn.
Row 4. Hdc in each hdc, 3 hdc in center st, etc.
Row 5. Sl st in each st across to make firmer ridge.
Bootee. Begin with sole and ch 20.
Row 1. 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 15, 5 dc in next, 1 dc in each of next 15 down opposite side of ch, 2 dc in last, join to top of 3-ch.
Row 2. Ch 3, 2 dc in each of next 3, 1 dc in each of next 13, 2 dc in each of next 7, 1 dc in each of next 13, 2 dc in each of next 3, 1 dc in same st as 3-ch, join.
Row 3. Ch 3, (1 dc in next, 2 dc in next) 3 times, 1 dc in each of next 14, (2 dc in next, 1 dc in next) 7 times, 1 dc in each of next 13, (2 dc in next, 1 dc in next) 3 times, 1 dc in same st as 3-ch, join.
Row 4. Ch 3, 1 dc around the post of each dc, inserting hook from back, right to left, join. (68 dc, counting 3-ch)
Rows 5 and 6. Dc even.
Row 7. Dc even. Fasten off.
Instep. Row 1. Beginning with first st to left of 3-ch in center back, count on left side of shoe to 27th st. Join yarn in this st, and with toe of shoe toward you, draw loop in same st. Retaining all loops on hook, draw up lp in each of next 12 (13 total loops). Work off as follows: yo, through 1, * yo, through 2 *, repeat across. The lp left on hook is always first st of next row.
Row 2. Insert hook under second vertical bar, draw up loop. Retaining all lps on hook, draw up lp in each vertical bar except last. Now insert hook through last vertical bar and st directly behind it and draw up lp (13 loops). Work off as for Row 1. Make 6 more rows in same manner.
Row 9. Draw up loop under second vertical bar, yo, through 2 (sc made). Repeat across, ending with 1 loop on hook.
Fasten instep in shoe as follows: Catch remaining loop on hook into 15th st from center back on right side of shoe (do not count 3-ch) and with instep piece toward you, sc it st for st to right side of shoe. 2 sc at corner, sc across toe, inserting hook from right to left under each of the original 13 sts of instep, 2 sc at corner, sc instep and shoe together along left side, ending in 15th st from center back (do not count 3-ch).
Beading. With toe of shoe facing you, ch 4, * sk 1, dc in next ch 1 *, repeat around, join to third st of ch 4 (23 dc).
Top. * Sk 2 sts, shell in next, sk 2, sc in next, repeat from * around (8 shells), sl st to center of shell, turn. Repeat this pattern until shoe is desired height. Fasten off.
Edge all garments with Bucilla Crochelle. * Ch 3, sl st in next, repeat from *.
Robe (or blanket). Row 1. Ch 301 loosely (multiple of 6 plus 1) to measure about 32 inches. * Shell in 3rd st from hook, sk 2, sc in next, sk 2, repeat from *, end sc in last, ch 3, turn.
Row 2. Half shell in base of ch, shells across. End half shell in last, ch 1, turn.
Repeat these 2 rows until work measures 36 inches, ending with Row 2. Ch 4, turn.
Make 1 row beading around entire robe as follows: Sk dc, dc in next, ch 1, sk sc, dc in next, * ch 1, sk 1 st, dc in next, repeat from * across end. Dc in last dc, ch 5, dc in same dc as last dc, ch 2, dc in center of dc, ch 2, dc in sc at end of next row, etc. Turn corner as before (You will have as many sp down each side of robe as number of rows.) Continue across the other end. * Ch 2, sk 2 st of original ch, dc in next, repeat from * across (twice as many sp as shells across end).
At last corner, ch 5, join to third st of ch 4, turn. Sl st to center of ch 5, and make shell row around as follows: Shell in first dc, sc in next dc, shell in next, etc., around. End sc in center of first ch 5. Fasten off. Add Crochelle trim if desired and insert ribbons for ties and trim.
