This shawl is knit in one of those lovely laces based on the Shetland feather and fan stitch.  There is so much movement and interest in the pattern that it may look more difficult to do than it really is.  Starting at the lower point of the shawl and increasing to as wide as you want, it becomes a lvoely fan-shaped neck scarf or shoulder wrap with scalloped points at the upper edge.  Lace-weight or very fine yarn is used.  You will need approximately 200 yards for a neck scarf, 600 yards for a smaller shoulder wrap (54 inches as pictured), and 1000 yards for a larger wrap of about 72 inches.
