This child's aran pattern is done in heavy sports weight cotton yarn in sizes 2-12.  1 cable needle, and 1 long set of US 2 double pointed needles and 1 pair each of the US 2 and 6 straight needles are recommended for gauge.  Gauge is done in stockinette stitch with 5 1/2 stitches per inch on US 6 needles.
